ioaeA new project for using alternative energy sources has recently been launched in "Bog kucha" mahalla of Uchkurgan district in support of the EU/UNDP "Enhancement of living standards in Fergana Valley” Programme. In the special boarding school No.46 repair of showers was carried out that were as old as the school itself; built back in 1958 and nowadays under the influence of time, moisture and water badly decayed. Repairing showers gave the idea of using alternative sources of energy for heating water, which are successfully used throughout the world, as their application saves the use of other heat-transfer materials like gas, coal, electric power, which, in turn, prevents contamination of the environment. As a result, the establishment of solar water heaters made it possible to demonstrate the use of modern environmentally friendly and energy efficient technologies in rural areas. The project beneficiaries are 307 children from different regions of the Fergana Valley.

Also in the mahalla, jointly with ELS project, a project on improving the drinking water supply was undertaken.  At the beginning of the project implementation there was no valid source of clean drinking water in mahalla. After a detailed analysis of the infrastructure and mahalla development plan - it was decided to restore primary drinking water supply. It was necessary to replace the water lifting pipes and all electrical equipment of the well (pump, water-meter, automat, control panel, cables), repair a water well according to estimates compiled to run well and provide residents with clean drinking water. The project was implemented in the shortest possible time due to joint efforts of mahalla, administration of boarding schools. At the moment, well supplies water not only residents of Mahalla and boarding schools, but also the whole village.

ioae1It should be noted that the ELS conducted a series of workshops in mahalla, meetings and trainings, as a result of which the knowledge has been successfully applied not only in the implementation of infrastructure projects such as improving water supplies, repair showers and installation of solar water heaters, but also in implementation of business projects, such as beekeeping, cultivation of early vegetables, citrus fruits, poultry, etc.
